Who is RKSA?

About us

We are RKSA – and you can be, too.

The path of Buddhism is inclusive and available to all. The Rissho Kosei-Kai Buddhist Center of San Antonio provides a place to practice the Buddha’s teachings to create a path to a more prosperous life, a brighter society, and a peaceful world.

RKSA combines traditional Buddhist teachings as well as methods for applying those principles so that we can recognize our own Buddha-nature and the Buddha-nature of others. We support each other and our community in the development of awareness, compassion and peace.

Our center is part of Rissho Kosei-Kai, a worldwide lay Buddhist organization founded in Japan in 1938 by Nikkyo Niwano and Myoko Naganuma. It combines the wisdom of both the Lotus Sutra and the foundational teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. Its purpose is to bring these transformative teachings to the modern world.

Our path:

1. To develop as bodhisattvas (one who has generated a wish and compassionate mind to guide others to enlightenment);
2. To realize Shakyamuni Buddha’s message: all beings possess Buddha-nature;
3. To bring peace to our families, communities, countries and to the world.

Becoming a member

We welcome everyone in the community to visit our Center and participate in our activities; membership is not required. However, if you find RKSA to be an ideal spiritual home for yourself, we highly encourage you to become a member. Becoming a member of RKSA helps you build a deeper relationship with the sangha (community) of practitioners, and a deeper connection to the study and practice of Buddhism. It also helps to support our Center, which allows us to continue our mission of helping to spread the wisdom of the Dharma to our community. Your membership and donations both help keep RKSA alive, and provide an excellent opportunity to practice the act of donation or expressing generosity. This is the first practice of the Six Perfections or the bodhisattva way. To become a member, please speak with any of our Dharma Teachers.
